Family Fund - Helping Disabled Children

The family fund is a registered charity that helps families with severely disabled children to have opportunities and choices to enjoy life.

They can give grants to low income families for things to make life easier for the disabled child and their families, ranging from household goods such as washing machines to driving lessons, holidays and computer equipment for school.

They have recently changed their criteria and the way they look at income.

To apply, you must meet the eligibility criteria which are:

  • You live in England
  • You are the parent or carer of a severly disabled child aged 17 or under who lives at home. (The Fund has it's own definition of severely disabled, please see their website for further info).
  • Money coming into your household is less than £25,000. This is the money you receive from benefits and tax credits. If you are working we also count your net income (this is the money you take home after you have paid tax and national insurance). We do not count Disability Living Allowance or Child benefit.
  • You have permanent legal residency in the UK and have lived in the UK for six months

They are not able to help children and young people in local authority care, including those living with relatives or foster carers or where a statutory agency has a responsibility to pay for the items needed.
