Leisl Griffiths

LeislMy name is Leisl Griffiths. I was born in Lisburn, County Antrim Northern Ireland . My family moved to England when I was very young. I was brought up in Heywood.

When I left school and home I worked as a sewing machinist and later as a care assistant in homes for more mature members of society.

I have also been a PA for a young person with Multiple Sclerosis. I felt this job was an eye opener, being in the life of a person with a physical disability.

I have four children two boys and two girls. Three out of my four children have support needs. The experiences I have gained with my children have empowered me to take up my voluntary position with Bury Parent Partnership. I sometimes help with the regular term – time coffee mornings and I also chair the Bury Parent Partnership steering group as well as being in the office supporting staff every Wednesday morning.

There are lots of exciting things happening in Bury at the moment with the Aiming high for Disabled Children initiative. I have just completed my application for the Sharing knowledge course which is due to start towards the end of this year. I am really looking forward to that.

I see myself as a positive person and role model and I am thoroughly enjoying being part of the Bury Parent Partnership team and meeting other families of children with additional needs in Bury.
