Disabled Child Finance Facility - Summary for project managers
Through our relationship with the Council for Disabled Children we have agreed to identify families to support the testing of a new web based facility which will offer a range of products and services related to finance such as benefits and debt management.
Further information is in the introductory paper. What I need at this stage is agreement that you will be able to engage families in this pilot which will start next month and an approximate number of how many parent you think would participate. If you could confirm this by the 28th August with me please and I will send further information as it becomes available. The organisation developing this service is called Social Finance Ltd www.socialfinance.org.uk

Public spending on services for disabled children
On Friday 10 July, the new government launched a website http://spendingchallenge.hm-treasury.gov.uk/ to let the public have their say about public spending under the its spending review. Government will be looking at the responses over the summer, so that they can publish their decisions in October. The discussions and decisions the government takes over the summer will determine how public money will be spent for the next four years.

NLDEN Update: Refreshing the Carers Strategy
For the Attention of Carers and Partners
Please find attached a letter plus detailed information from the Minister for Care Services, Paul Burstow, beginning the refresh of the National Carers Strategy. As well as asking for evidence about carers’ needs from organisations like The Carers Centre, the Government also wants to hear from individual carers to establish “what will have the greatest impact on improving carers’ lives in the next four years.”
It is important during this time of cuts and reductions in services that as many carers as possible take this opportunity to tell the Government either individually or through The Carers Centre about what would make the biggest difference to their lives over the next 4 years. However, it is believed that there will almost certainly be trade-offs in term of which priorities end up being funded.
